auroras is proud to present an exhibition of works by Dudi Maia Rosa and Anderson Borba. In the main space, wall works and sculptures from both artists are exhibited in dialogue. Both artists have a pictorial relationship with the object. It can be argued in two ways, that they
introduce a sculptural dimension to painting (perhaps Dudi Maia Rosa’s most frequent way) or even that there is an interest in surface qualities – of color and gesture – in sculptures and reliefs (here closer to Anderson Borba). The fact is that, caring little about the categorization of these works, these artists produce complex formal relationships between these historical genres.
A divergent point, perhaps opposites among the artists, is the issue between opacity and transparency. While the wood (burned or not) from Borba is evidently opaque, in addition to the surface treatments with collage and carvings (which attest to this carnality of the material); Maia Rosa’s resin paintings play with the transparency of the support. However, it is true that they also explore the opposite sides of this binomial: some of Borba’s sculptures create empty volumes that let the eye pass through and Maia Rosa adds the mark of paint that blocks the translucency of the surface.
Based on the uniqueness of each of these works that coexist in the space, the public will be able to establish their own relationships between these living forms. Finally, in the library, the two artists from different generations also meet the work of Luisa Brandelli, who occupies the
house’s two project rooms.
