Lydia Okumura (1948) has received numerous awards; her work challenges the perception of space through the use of line in site-specific installations. Her investigation of geometrical compositions of space also extends into sculptures and works on paper. She was part of the collective Equipe3 (1970-1979), participated in several editions of São Paulo International Biennial (1973, 1977, 1979, 1983), and was the first Brazilian artist to integrate the collection of the Metropolitan Museum of Art of New York in 1978. Her work is collected by institutions in Japan, Chile, Venezuela, Colombia, Norway and the United States. In Brazil, her work is in Pinacoteca do Estado de São Paulo, Museum of Modern Art (MAM), the Museum of Contemporary Art (MAC / USP), Itamarati Palace (Brasília), and numerous private collections.
