auroras is pleased to present the project “Submersive – Act I” by Ana Cláudia Almeida and Carla Santana. Selected by the Open Call for the swimming pool, the artists present a painting of the dimensions of the bottom of the pool, submerged in water. On the boundary between painting, installation and performance, the creation process was open; visitors who passed through the space during the month of November followed a choreography of the painting carried out by the two artists. In this final moment, the filling of the pool modifies the painting, as well as creates a kind of refraction and optical distortion, adding the organic shapes of the background with the movement of the water, the reflection of the sky and the surroundings.
The artists say that “by sharing intellectual affinities and working together, we realized the interest in building a site-specific that would lead to the relationship between bodily performance and surface performance.” The project is carried out with the support of the Secretariat of Culture and Creative Economy of the State of São Paulo, through ProAC.
